"EGO" - last two performances in Coimbra
Next weekend the public in Coimbra will have the last two opportunities to attend to “EGO“, a Carl Djerassi play, on the stage of Teatro da Cerca de São Bernardo. The play will be presented on Saturday, 25 April, at 9:30pm, and on Sunday, the 26th, at 4pm.
In the play, the north-american writer and scientist reveals his admiration by Fernando Pessoa and his extraordinary heteronymic creation using him has the main motivation for the forged suicide of one of the characters. Stephen Marx, successful writer, has the deep desire to know if his literary work will endure in the history of literature, which makes him plan his own death in order to be reborn as an heteronym. But his widow-to-be, a strong force of nature, is an adversary not easy to overcome. Between the two we find a psychoanalyst that sees his professional ethics permanently menaced and who, in the end, will never be the same.
“EGO” is a tasty comedy sprinkled with a subtil humor and filled with literary, culinary and freudian references.
