Next stop: European Researchers' Night
On 30 September we return to the European Researchers Night!
Bipolar Disorder: One Other Side is a project created under the scope of the Unknownness Lab, together with the CNC UC and with the support of the University of Coimbra through the 2021 Award for Support for the Promotion of Scientific Culture.
Under the theme “Science for All (SCIEVER) – Inclusion and Sustainability”, the next edition of the ERN will be the stage to address bipolar disorder. Marionet will produce, in a collaborative way and interpreted by researchers, a pilot episode on this disease that will be disseminated through the CNC, Marionet and iiiUC digital platforms.
Bipolar Disorder is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by alternating episodes of euphoria and depression. It can therefore be very disabling, resulting in sleep disturbances, a greater propensity for the development of other pathologies (eg cardiovascular and neurological) and a great social impact on the lives of patients and their families. However, Bipolar Disorder does not have to be seen as limiting, and it is above all important to reduce the social stigma that still surrounds this and many other mental illnesses, and which often inhibits patients from seeking help.
Thus, an effective communication strategy in the area of mental illnesses, in particular Bipolar Disorder, is essential to reduce stigma and promote society’s awareness of these illnesses. With this initiative, we propose to articulate scientific content in the area of health sciences and the Arts through the creation of multimedia artistic content, in order to involve society in these themes.
The European Researchers’ Night (ERN) is an initiative by the European Commission, which aims to bring researchers and citizens closer together.
