“The Lives of the River” is a show about urban rivers and their ecosystems, created with a fourth grade class from Escola EB1 da Solum Sul, which casts a look from the relationship of people with rivers and what they contain that is invisible to us.
The show is part of the CresceRio Project, an initiative of MARE/ARNET – University of Coimbra, Dept. of Life Sciences in partnership with Marionet, the Department of Biology of the University of Aveiro and PROAQUA, which aimed at making known the urban riverside ecosystems, their biodiversity and problems, namely those in the city of Coimbra. In addition to thinking about the contact that the community has with these environments, the development of civic responsibility in their preservation and recovery is a purpose of this project, which was born in 2018 and is already in its second edition.
In the five stories that make up this play we discover the meaning of words that seem invented, a fisherman who doesn’t know where to sit, a meeting of disgruntled aquatic tenants, best friends with a keen appetite and invertebrates that are not satisfied with the life they lead. The human beings? They say they want to enjoy it but end up destroying it.
