In this essay we address the work of Marionet, a theatre company of Coimbra, Portugal, which has a consistent 20 years long activity of merging theatre and science. Along with devising or producing pre-existing science plays, Marionet has been developing theatre plays collaboratively with researchers, focusing on the scientific endeavour and its social medium; has been developing site-specific plays in scientific buildings; and is involved as a partner in several scientific projects, and regularly directs workshops with scientific researchers on how to transpose scientific research into a theatrical language. This article is focused on Marionet’s creative work with scientific researchers, where they write and perform theatre plays about their lives and work as scientists.
