Happy Holidays!
This year, which is almost over, was special for Marionet.
We started 2022 with the revival of LED – Inner Voyage in a Smartphone at Centro de Artes de Águeda, while we were already preparing, in Coimbra, the show Morpheus and Apnea, as part of the project To Sleep or Not To Sleep? about Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which premiered on World Sleep Day, at the São Francisco Convent. This Marionet initiative, together with the CNC (Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology) and the Portuguese Sleep Association, was distinguished by the World Sleep Society 2022.
The year also featured several translations in the Collaborative Translation Project and the respective readings in the Reading Theater with Science project. We had five in total. Five books, five translations, five readings and many volunteers who were part of these projects, that will continue in 2023. In addition to the plays that were already part of the Documentation Centre on the Performing Arts and Science, 22 more were added. Perhaps next year we will add 23 (or more)!
During the month of April, once again the installation by Sílvio Correia Santos, Can you hear me?, was on exhibition as part of the project Hearing Voices. This time at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.
On 30 June and 24 September we presented the show River Stories, as part of CresceRio, a project in partnership with MARE, and that will return in the year 2023 with a new class! Meanwhile, The Meaning of Everything was already filling our thoughts, Marionet’s 47th show, reflects on our relationship with the world and, especially, with its preservation. But before premiering this co-production with the TAGV (Gil Vicente Academic Theatre) we still participated in the European Researchers’ Night with the video presentation Bipolar Disorder: One Other Side, resulting from a project in partnership with CNC, CIBB and CEIS20. Shot by Tiago Cerveira, directed by Mário Montenegro, the video features the interpretation of two researchers from CNC and two psychiatrists from CHUC who work and research in this area.
On the 23 October Marionet blew out 22 candles and launched its new website, up-to-date and dynamic, full of life, stories and people. Exactly 12 days later, The Meaning of Everything premiered at the TAGV.
We continue working daily on our archive – Marionetarium – that will be very soon available to the public. Here you’ll be able to surf through all the elements that make up Marionet’s history, a history between theatre and science.
We are looking forward to the coming year, which makes us very happy as it brings the certainty of our reunion. We thank all of you who have been part of our year and continue to make Marionet a home company.
For now, we wish you happy holidays and an excellent 2023!
