The third edition of Theatre About Science has come to an end
After such intense and memorable days, all that remains is for us to express our heartfelt thanks. We hope we have lived up to your expectations at this third meeting, where we brought together science and the performing arts. Therefore, we would like to thank…
To everyone who participated in Theatre About Science and who, with their knowledge and creations, made this event extremely stimulating, especially the keynote speakers Alexandra Mermikides, Arthur I. Miller, Elisabeth Bouchaud and Marcus du Sautoy, who accepted the invitation to enrich the debate in a decisive way.
To those who, pre-producing and on the ground, formed the volunteer and production teams, coordinated by the Organising Committee and their respective institutions: Marionet, Gil Vicente Academic Theatre, Interdisciplinary Research Institute of the University of Coimbra, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra, Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, CEIS20 – Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, Centre for Innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology, and GeneT – Centre of Excellence in Gene Therapy. Without their unparalleled dedication and enthusiasm, we would not have been able to achieve this.
To the Scientific Committee, which had the difficult task of selecting the works to be presented: Andrea Brunello, Carla Almeida, Carlos Fiolhais, Daniel Abdalla, Daniel Gamito-Marques, Emma Weitkamp, Joana Lobo Antunes, Liliane Campos, Paul Johnson, Simon Parry, Steve Abbott, and Teresa Girão. The result was a series of high-quality presentations, performances and workshops that left their mark.
To the artistic and technical teams of all the shows, performances and films presented. Their vision and competence elevated this conference to an impressive level.
To all the Partner Entities (Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra, Rómulo – Science Centre of the University of Coimbra, SciCom – Science and Technology Communication Network of Portugal, Student Hub UC, Department of Chemistry of the University of Coimbra, Casa das Artes Bissaya Barreto) and Funding Entities (DGARTES – Directorate-General for the Arts, Coimbra City Council, Ciência Viva, Eng. António de Almeida Foundation, FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology). Without this support, it would have been impossible to carry out this event, with all that it entails.
To the venues that, in addition to those already mentioned, hosted the activities of this conference: the Convento São Francisco and the TEUC – University of Coimbra Student Theatre. Their facilities and those who run them were very important to the success of this meeting.
In summary, we believe that the 3rd edition of Theatre About Science has once again fulfilled its purpose of helping to promote the intersection between science and the performing arts. And that is to the credit of all these people and institutions!
