The second instalment of the Marionet Digital project is about epilepsy, a neurological disease that affects around 65 million people worldwide. The disease manifests itself in multiple ways and seizures can have serious consequences in their most intense manifestations. Many people that suffer with epilepsy live daily with the uncertainty of when they will have a seizure and pay close attention to their body’s signals. In “Clouds” we imagine what might be in the head of a person with epilepsy.
Marionet Digital is a space for artistic expression created in formats designed for digital communication. The set of three works to be produced in 2023, developed for this context, focuses on Health Sciences themes. The second is about epilepsy and follows on from a show produced by Marionet, “The Epilepsy Algorithm”.
Epilepsy is a disease of the central nervous system that causes abnormal electrical discharges in neurons. It is known that 1 per cent of the world’s population suffers from this disease, regardless of gender or age.
In addition to the seriousness of the disease itself, given the risk of accidents, trauma, prolonged seizures and sudden death caused by convulsions, it is also directly related to psychological conditions (anxiety, depression, etc.) and social problems (social isolation, unemployment, etc.).
However, with advances in medicine, it is possible to control the disease and reduce its side effects, promoting the health and well-being of people suffering from epilepsy.
