The twentieth instalment of Reading Theatre with Science takes place on 17 July (6:00 pm), at Casa das Artes Bissaya Barreto (Castro Matoso, nº 17, Coimbra).
The text to be read is “R.U.R.“, BY Karel Čapek, translated as part of the Collaborative Translation Project. Published in 1920 by Aventinum (Prague), this is a science fiction novel that deals with the freedom of the human being, the denial of God, and the consequences of greed and exploitation. In it, the term ‘robot’ appears for the first time, and was soon adopted by several languages.
As always, the original text, as well as the aforementioned translation, are available for consultation or loan at the Performing Arts and Science Documentation Centre.
